The second battle of El Alamein concludes: After a month of fighting, Lieutenant-General Bernard Law Montgomery, commanding the British (Commonwealth) Eighth Army, defeats the German–Italian Afrikakorps commanded by Field Marshal Erwin Rommel.
NOTE: This marks the turning point in the Axis War (World War II) for the allies. The army of the United States will not invade North Africa for another three months.
