The pseudo-Protestant Reformation begins: The Fifth (a.k.a. Reformation) Parliament of Henry VIII passes the Restraint of Appeals Act, declaring the marriage of Henry VIII (a Catholic, until 1534; an Anglican afterward; r. 1509 – 1547) to Catherine of Aragon (a Catholic), daughter of dual monarchs King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella, of Spain, a nullity and restoring her title of Princess dowager (widow) that Catherine had been given three decades previous, following the death of her husband, Crown Prince Arthur (Henry’s brother). Catherine is now 52 years old and no longer able to bear children.
