The Battle of Manila: Private William W. Grayson, of the First Nebraska Volunteer Infantry Regiment fires the first shots of the Filipino-American War, killing a Filipino officer and Soldier.  Both were unarmed.

       Postscript: The fighting ended the next day when Major General Elwell S. Otis, commanding the Eighth Corps, of the Army of the United states, had forced the retreat of the Revolutionary Army of Philippines, commanded by General Emilio Aguinaldo.
