Charles Darwin publishes The Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex, intensifying the firestorm of indignation among fundamentalist Christians for its challenge to the Biblical teachings that life—and now mankind—are the result of naturalistic processes, and not intelligent design. This explicitly declares that mankind is an animal, and not created with a divine purpose.
Question: What is the difference between this premise, and the attitude of some Christians who are persuaded of dominionist thought that they are to “replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth [including non-believers]?”
NOTE: This amplified text of Genesis 1:27-28, is necessary to explain of the actions of political organizations such as the Moral Majority and the Christian Coalition that base their political positions upon dominionism, and not the Golden Rule.
