Pride’s Purge: Colonel Thomas Pride, of the (Puritan) New Model Army, enters the elective House of Commons, arrests 45 Members, and disperses royalists, Presbyterians and other non-Puritan Members, along with vociferous critics of Oliver Cromwell.  This transforms the 470-Member “Long Parliament” to the 80-Member “Rump Parliament.”

NOTE: This was the only military coup in British history.
