While the United states Armed Forces (private mercenaries) are in Afghanistan and the Philippines defending “all freedom-loving people everywhere in the world,” the Federal court for the central district of california hands down United states v. Teague: judge David O. Carter sentences Michael Teague—a medical marijuana patient—to 18 months in prison for conspiracy to distribute legal medicinal marijuana.  In handing down the sentence Carter rejected mandatory minimum guidelines as dictated by the U.s. Sentencing Commission.  Carter might have sentenced Teague to no time whatsoever had it not been for his lawful possession of a Hechler & Koch 9mm sidearm.

NOTE: Teague was prosecuted in Federal court because the municipal district attorney refused to file charges against him.  This is Double Jeopardy, which is prohibited by Article V of Amendment.
