The superior court for county of Los Angeles (California) hands down “The Lancaster Grannies”: judge David M. Mintz orders Robert Roy Granicy (age 63), his wife Armitta Mae (age 60), and his sisters Dorothy Jean Manning (age 67) and Ramona Ann Beck (age 62), to pay a total of 2,450 “dollars” in fines for refusing to keep detailed records of their customers who purchase Iodine crystals.  Iodine crystals are used to cure Hoof and Mouth disease, purify water and manufacture methamphetamine.  The Granicys objected to the law because it forces private citizens to act as drug informants and had no security provisions to protect feed store owners from drug dealer reprisals.
