Robert Franklin Atkins, a convicted burglar, wielding a pitchfork, murders 17-year-old Jessica Carpenter, along with her seven-year-old brother and nine-year-old sister. She was unable to retrieve a gun, or rifle, to defend her siblings, because they were locked away, in accordance state firearms statutes. Had they been able to do so, their father would have been charged with a felony.
