The ninth circuit court of appeals hands down Thomas v. Anchorage (Federal enclave of Alaska) Equal Rights Commission, requiring landlords, to disregard their religious tenets, and rent to unmarried couples (tenants).

       Melvin Edison Hale, a 72 year-old rancher, in Hays County, texas, shoots and kills a state statute enforcement officer (acting under-color-of-law)—in self-defense—who had just pulled him over, rather than go to jail for his second violation of not wearing his seatbelt.
