The ostensibly pro-free-market Republican (fascist/socialist) President Reagan signs the National Organ Transplant Act, making it illegal to sell human organs for transplant.  Anatomical organs may be made available only by altruistic donation.

Postscript: Since the passing of this statute, the average waiting period for donor organs more than doubled, with 30 to 175 days for a liver and 390 to 720 days for a kidney.

Question: Do the surgeons and nurses who perform human organ transplants donate their resources as well?
