The Battle of Shiloh Church (a.k.a Battle of Pittsburg Landing) (Tennessee) concludes: Major General Don Carlos Buell, commanding the compulsory Union Army of the Ohio reinforces the Union Army of the Tennessee, commanded by Major General Ulysses Simpson (a.k.a. Hiram Ulysses) Grant.  This forces the Confederate (a voluntary union) Army of Mississippi, commanded by General P.G.T. Beauregard to retreat into Corinth, Mississippi.
