The Texas Revolution begins at the Battle of Gonzales: Colonel John Henry Moore, commanding 150 Texian (sic) Militiamen, defeats 100 cavalrymen of the Army of Mexico, commanded by Lieutenant Francisco de Castaneda.  Castaneda had been dispatched to Gonzales to retake possession of an army cannon that had been loaned to the Militia.
