The Supreme Court, of the federal united States, decides Worchester v. Georgia—without overturning its conflicting decision in Cherokee Nation v. Georgia the previous year—denying that the sovereign State of Georgia has jurisdiction over the Cherokee Nation as it is subject to the jurisdiction of Congress, not any State.

     NOTE: John Marshall, Chief Justice of the united States, and William Johnson, Jr., Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, switched their votes between the two decisions.
