The Federal court for the northern district of the Federal enclave of Ohio hands down Hartwig v. United states: judge Solomon Oliver, Jr., refuses to hear the defamation suit filed against the United states Navy for having besmirched the character of deceased Gunner’s Mate Second Class Clayton M. Hartwig.  To cover for their incompetence, the officers of the USS Iowa had portrayed Hartwig as a suicidal homosexual who took the lives of 47 officers and Sailors with him.  ” [H]owever hurtful the government’s action may have been, they cannot form the basis of a claim against the United [s]tates.”
