The Federal court for the northern district of the confederate state of georgia hands down United states v. Sardina, sentencing Nelson Sardina to 17 years in prison for conspiracy to distribute four kilograms of cocaine.  According to the guidelines of the U.s. Sentencing Commission, 17 years is appropriate penalty for 15 kilos, but not four.  Sardina who had no prior convictions received substantially more prison time than his co-conspirators, who had previously done time.  Sardina’s attorney (government licensed legal counsel) was coerced into becoming a Federal informant being under investigation for criminal conduct—information that was withheld from him.

Postscript: Sardina’s attorney was disbarred three years later.
