Eric Blair, using the pen name George Orwell, publishes Nineteen Eighty-Four, after his paper “The Theory and Practice of Worldwide Oligarchical Collectivism” is repeatedly rejected by scholarly foreign policy journals.  In his paper, Blair predicted that the post Axis War (World War II) world would be dominated by the United States and the United Kingdom (Oceania), China (East Asia), and the Soviet Union/Russia (Eurasia).  The three powers would take turns forming alliances of two against the third.  The odd power out would go through internal convulsions until it could form an alliance with one of the other two and then work against the new odd power.  The essay appears in book three of Orwell’s opus.
