The Army of fascist Germany marches into Austria, and absorbs that nation into “Greater Germany.”  The day before the illegal National Socialist (“Nazi”) Party of Austria overthrew the one-party dictatorship of Kurt von Schuschnigg.  Schuschnigg had agreed to hold a national plebiscite on the question of merging Austria into Germany, but the referendum was cancelled with the coup d’etat.
