Near Irwinsville, Georgia the government of the Confederate States comes to an end when the Fourth Michigan Calvary, under the command of Brevet Major General James H. Wilson, captures non-partisan (constitutionalist) President Davis.  Davis was on his way to Texas, where he had hoped to raise an army and continue the war for southern independence.
