Commander-in-Chief Abraham Lincoln, of the united States, writes to Major General William T. Sherman, commander of the Division of the Mississippi, requesting that Indiana Militiamen and Soldiers under his command be allowed to return home and cast ballots in the presidential election. As Indiana will not allow absentee ballots. However only Unionists, and not Democrats, are granted furloughs.
