The Supreme Court, of the federal united States, hands down Fletcher v. Peck, declaring as unlawful a Georgia statute intended to extract restitution for the victims of the Yazoo Land Fraud scandal from its perpetrators.

NOTE: The statute in question was a Bill of Attainder: pronouncement of guilt by the legislature, which circumvents due process.
