The National Constituent Assembly, of the Republic of France, authorizes a new issue of 600,000,000 paper assignats (Bills of Credit), in addition to the 1,200,000,000 that had already been issued. 

       NOTE: This violates the pledge the NCA had made to not to print more notes, and thus touches off hyperinflation (depreciation, a decline in purchasing power).
