George III (r. 1760 – 1776, in the colonies; died 1820) lends his assent to the Quebec Act, establishing a civil government for the former French enclave, granting the Roman Catholic Church the right to collect a mandatory 10% tithe on all colonists, and extending the boundaries of the colony of Quebec to the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers.
