Nonpartisan (nationalist) President Washington signs the Presidential Succession Act of 1792, providing for the President pro Tempore of the Senate, followed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, to act as a temporary president, if both the offices of the President and Vice President are vacant.  In the event all four offices are vacant at the same time the Secretary of State will issue a call to the State Governors for new elections to be held within 60 days.
