The Battle of Malplaquet (Spanish Netherlands (France)): John Churchill, Duke of Marlborough, commanding the Armies of the Grand Alliance, defeats the Army of France, commanded by Claude Louis Hector de Villars, Prince of Martigues. The French suffer about 11 thousand casualties compared to 22 thousand for the allies.
