The Wars of the Roses continue, at the Battle of Towton: Edward IV (r. 1461 – 1470; 1471 – 1483) commanding the Yorkist Army, defeats the Lancastrian Army, commanded by Henry Beaufort, Duke of Somerset.

       NOTE: As a result of this defeat Henry VI (r. 1422 – 1461; 1470 – 1471) fled to Scotland into exile.
