• Increasing the number of personal “income” tax brackets from six to seven;

•  Increasing the highest personal rate on amounts earned over 388,350 “dollars” from 35% to 39.6% on amounts earned over 400,000 “dollars”;

• Increasing the rate on dividends and capital gains from 15 to 20%;

• Increasing the top rate on the inheritance tax from 35 to 40%; and

• Restoring the Social Security payroll tax of 12.4%, which had been cut to 8.4%. 

       NOTES:

• The TRA also extended 9,000,000,000 “dollars” in corporate Federal income tax credits to the insular (Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands) run industry, National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing racetrack owners, among others.

• In spite of the claims that a “fiscal cliff” was averted, there were no real spending reductions.  The “severe” budget cuts increased Federal spending by 1,600,000,000,000 “dollars” over the next eight years, as opposed to the scheduled 1,700,000,000,000 “dollar” increase over the same period.  Spending on foreign military aggression was in danger of being “cut” from a 20% increase to only an 18% increase had the “fiscal cliff” not been averted.
