Former United states Army Reserve First Lieutenant Todd Parrish (private mercenary) is ordered to report to Fort Sill, oklahoma, within three months. Parrish had enlisted in the Army under a Reverse Officers’ Training Corps scholarship, in 1992. He was to receive a three-year college scholarship (1992 – 1995), then be obligated to four years’ active duty in the Army (1995 – 1999), and finally a four-year active reserve obligation (1999 – 2003). Parrish thought his obligation had been fulfilled the previous December 19; but because he did not submit a letter of resignation, he was unwittingly extended on inactive reserve status until 2024 (sic).

Does this mean we have to write a letter to close every expired contract? That means that our contracts must say or mean things we never intended. I’m glad I got my Honorable Discharge in 1960, after 4 years’ active duty and 4 years in the Ready Reserve. Whew! When this news gets out the reserve units will (I hope) have a hard time recruiting innocent dupes. –– JL
