While the United States Armed Forces (private mercenaries) are in Afghanistan and the Philippines defending “all freedom-loving people everywhere in the world”—the ostensibly pro-State sovereignty—Republican (fascist/socialist) de facto President George W. The third circuit court of appeals hands down Chadwick v. Janecka, upholding the eight-year long ongoing incarceration of H. Beatty Chadwick for civil contempt. Chadwick was never charged with a crime, but jailed on the order of a family court judge for refusing to transfer to the custody of the court 2,500,000 “dollars,” which the court was unable to prove existed. In stating the Opinion of the Court, judge Samuel Alito writes, “Because the state courts have repeatedly found that Mr. Chadwick has the present ability to comply with the July 1994 state court order, we cannot disturb the state courts’ decision that there is no federal constitutional bar to Mr. Chadwick’s indefinite confinement for civil contempt so long as he retains the ability to comply with the order requiring him to remit the money at issue.”
NOTE: If Chadwick had stolen this amount of money, tried and sentenced the maximum penalty for this crime, he would have been out of prison within eight years.
Postscripts:
- Three years later, Alito was promoted to the supreme court, of the corporate United states.
- Ten years later, Chadwick was still in prison.
