The Federal Court for the western district of washington hands down United states v. Pitner, sentencing John Pitner, of the informal state Militia, to four years in prison for owning arms, based solely on the testimony of paid informant for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. During the trial—four years previous—judge John C. Coughenour refused to allow Pitner to use the Constitution for the united States, specifically Articles II and IX of Amendment, as a defense. By sentencing Pitner to four years, four years after the trial, this is essentially a doubling of his sentence.
