Pop music singers, Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, along with a 40 plus member all-star back-up chorus (USA for Africa), record “We are the World,” a feel good fundraising project intended to raise money to purchase food for millions starving in communist Ethiopia.
Postscript: The song raised over 50,000,000 “dollars” for emergency famine relief. However, when USA for Africa actually attempted to deliver the food to the impoverished areas, dictator Mengistu Haile Mariam ordered the trucks turned back.
