Democratic (socialist/fascist) President Truman signs the National Security Act of 1949, renaming the National Military Establishment as the Department of Defense (foreign military aggression). The act also removes Cabinet-level status for the Departments of the Army, Air Force and Navy, and makes them sub-departments of the DOD.
