The Hungarian Gold Train Robbery: In Werfen, Austria, the third infantry division, of the army of the United States, commanded by major general John W. O’Daniel, intercepts a locomotive hauling 24 box cars laden with artwork, jewelry, gold and silver Coins (lawful Money) stolen from Hungarian Jews by the pro-Nazi German government of Hungary.  Rather than safeguard the loot for return to its rightful owners, the officers under O’Daniel’s command decided to enrich themselves with the ill-gotten gains.
