The Fall of Manila (Philippines): Fermin Jaudenes y Alvarez, Governor-General of the Spanish enclave of the Philippines, surrenders the city to Major General Wesley Merritt, commanding the Eighth Corps of the Army of the United states.

NOTE: Jaudenes and Merritt had secretly reached an agreement that Manila would only be surrendered to the U.s., and not General Emilio Aguinaldo, commanding the Revolutionary Army of Philippines.
