Near Irwinsville, Georgia the government of the Confederate States comes to an end when the Fourth Michigan Calvary, under the command of Brevet Major General James H. Wilson, captures nonpartisan (constitutionalist) President Davis.  Davis was on his way to Texas, where he had hoped to raise an army and continue the war for southern independence.
