The Battle of Fort Davidson/Pilot Knob (Missouri): Brigadier General Thomas Ewing, Jr., commanding the compulsory Union garrison at Fort Davidson, defeats the Confederate Army of Missouri, commanded by Major General Sterling Price.
NOTE: Although Ewing was forced to withdraw from the fort after two days of fighting, the battle is considered a Union victory, as it critically setback the effort of the Confederacy to capture St. Louis.
