The Battle of Spotsylvania Court House (Virginia) ends: After two weeks of fighting, General Robert E. Lee, commanding the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia, and George G. Meade, commanding the compulsory Union Army of the Potomac, fight to a draw. 

NOTE: Over 4,000 Americans lost their lives.
