The Battle of Chickamauga (Georgia) concludes: After two days of fighting, General Braxton Bragg, commanding the Confederate (a voluntary union) Army of Tennessee, defeats the compulsory Union Army of the Cumberland, commanded by Major General William S. Rosecrans. 

       NOTE: Nearly 4,000 Americans lost their lives.
