The Grattan Massacre: In the federal enclave of Nebraska, Second Lieutenant John L. Grattan, commanding a platoon of the Sixth Infantry Regiment of the Army of the united States, enters a Sioux encampment of about 500 strong seeking to arrest High Forehead, who is accused of killing a cow that belonged to a Jesus Christ Church of Latter-day Saint migrant.  Such an incident is to supposed to be handled by a civilian agent from the Department of the Interior, but Grattan is determined to make a name for himself.  His inexperience leads to the deaths of his entire platoon—including himself.
