Independent Democrat (constitutionalist) President Tyler signs the Re-apportionment Act of 1842, requiring that States divide themselves into winner-take-all districts for representation of WE THE PEOPLE in Congress. This makes the representation of political minorities much less likely. The act also reduces the size of the House of Representatives from 242 to 223; thereby increasing the influence of special interests.
NOTE: This act, more than any other, is probably responsible for our present-day duopoly of the Democratic and Republican (status quo) parties.
