Whig (nationalist) State Representative Abraham Lincoln, of Illinois, speaking on the floor of the State House of Representatives condemns free banking (the requirement that banks maintain their reserves in lawful Money (gold and silver Coin), and calls for the re-establishment of a central bank:
However much care selections may be made, there will be some unfaithful and dishonest. The experience of the whole world, in all bygone times proves this true. The Savior of the world chose twelve disciples, and even one of that small number, selected by superhuman wisdom, turned out to be a traitor and a devil.
NOTE: Lincoln, who never joined a Church in his life, and privately held disdain for religion, frequently quoted the Bible to make political points with believers
