General Agustín Cosme Damian de Iturbide y Aramburu, commander of the Army of the Three Guarantees, and Juan Jose Rafael Teodomiro de O’Donoju y O’Ryan, Viceroy of New Spain, sign the Treaty of Cordoba, recognizing the independence of Mexico under the Plan of Iguala:
- Mexico is to become a constitutional monarchy;
- Roman Catholicism will be the official state religion;
- Americanos (those born in Mexico) will enjoy the same political and social rights as Peninsulares (those born in Spain).
