1768/03/08

George III (r. 1760 – 1776, in the colonies; died 1820) lends his assent to the Vice Admiralty Court Act, establishing four special courts—without Trial by Jury—in Boston, Massachusetts; Charleston, South Carolina; Halifax, Nova Scotia; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to hear smuggling cases.  The judges are paid out of the fines that they impose.
