The Second Parliament of Edward IV declares the marriage of the late king to Queen Elizabeth to be a nullity, their children to be illegitimate—thus unqualified to reign. The crown now passes to Richard III (r. 1483 – 1485).

Lord Protector Richard of Northamptonshire, Duke of Gloucester (r. 1483 – 1485) assumes the throne as Richard III. The whereabouts of the uncrowned Edward V (r. 1483) are unknown.
Postscript: Richard’s reign was so cruel that he was the last king of the realm to be so named.
