ELECTION DAY: New York City voters approve Question One by a margin of 74% to 36%, directing that future primary elections be conducted according to Instant Runoff (a.k.a. “Ranked-Choice”) Voting.  Under IRV, voters rank all candidates by order of preference.  If no candidate receives a majority vote in the first round, the candidate with the fewest votes is eliminated, and the second choice of that candidate’s supporters is added to the others.  The process is repeated until once candidate emerges with a majority.
