The court of criminal appeals, of the confederate state of alabama, hands down Pardue v. state, affirming the lifetime sentence of 42-year old Michael Pardue for having three strikes under the state’s habitual offenders act for three escape attempts from prison. He was originally convicted of a triple homicide when he was 17. The convictions were overturned because his confession was extracted under duress (torture).
