Frederick P. Hitz, Inspector General of the Central Intelligence Agency, reports to George J. Tenet, Director of Central Intelligence, confirming that not only were the allegations of Gary S. Webb, the former reporter for the San Jose (California) Mercury News, that the CIA not only knew of the cocaine smuggling by the Nicaraguan Contra rebels, but those allegations were understated.
