The Great Recession continues around the world: In a national plebiscite, voters of Iceland overwhelming reject the repayment schedule negotiated by the government of Prime Minister Johanna Sigurdardottir with the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the United Kingdom (NAY, 98%; YEA, 2%). The Netherlands and UK bailed out Icesave (commercial) bank a year and a half pervious; but voters were incensed at the notion that they were paying for mistakes made by those “too big to fail,” and that the UK had used anti-terrorist legislation to seize Iceland’s British investments to hold repayment hostage.
