The Federal court for the northern district of illinois hands down United states v. McCarroll: judge John J. Thorpe, Jr., sentences Lawrence McCarroll to die a premature death in prison.  McCarroll, who will need a new kidney before he reaches the age of 25, is sentenced to 33 years in prison for a non-violent drug offense.  The Bureau of Prisons does not allow organ transplants—even if a donor is found.  Besides only having one kidney, McCarroll was diagnosed with an aneurysm in one of his thighs.
