Stephen Koerner, a Drug Enforcement agent, and Van Spencer, a detective with the Lexington, kentucky Police Department, arrest Jerry Lee Allen, a Mt. Sterling used car dealer, in a “reverse sting” (making a drug sale, as opposed to a drug purchase). Allen brought 45,000 “dollars” in Federal Reserve Notes with him to purchase automobiles at auction, but first met his friend Bobby Branham at a nearby restaurant; both Koerner and Spencer there too. Allen tried to leave as soon as he realized the two policemen were talking about selling drugs and not cars.
NOTE: Charles Cordle, a professional snitch was paid 300 “dollars” for setting up the reverse sting.
Postscript: At his trial the United states Attorney did not produce evidence of any type of transaction or telephone conversations.
