The military prison at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, Cuba releases Shaker Aamer, a British subject, who had been detained for 14 years–without charge.

NOTE: Aamer had been cleared for release in 2007, but is took eight years of pressure from his family and friends, and eventually the Parliament of the United Kingdom, before that became a reality.  More than 100 detainees remained in the prison, and more than half of them had been cleared for release.
